May 2025Where it all began.
Where it all began.
Petals for a Purpose began from something deeply personal.
For Fatima, it started as a simple hobby of creating handmade pipe cleaner flowers, one petal at a time. What began as a creative outlet slowly became something more meaningful: a way to connect with others and brighten someone's day through small acts of kindness.

February 2026Small gestures, real connection.
Small gestures, real connection.
That idea continued to grow through experiences in community outreach and volunteer work. Through creating handmade cards for seniors in care homes and spending time in spaces where loneliness was often felt quietly, Fatima saw firsthand how meaningful small gestures could become.
A handmade card, a flower, or simply knowing someone took the time to think of you could bring comfort and make someone feel a little less alone.
For Ava, that same idea took shape through community outreach and building relationships with local organizations. Some of our earliest opportunities to share flowers began through outreach with Ronald McDonald House Charities and the Hospice of Windsor and Essex County.

May 2026Behind every diagnosis is a person.
Behind every diagnosis is a person.
Through our undergraduate backgrounds in Biological Sciences, and later through our experiences in the Master of Translational Health Science program at the University of Windsor, we spent years learning about healthcare, research, and patient experiences.
Along the way, one idea stayed with us: behind every diagnosis, every research study, and every care plan is a real person with emotions, experiences, and a story that deserves kindness.
Petals for a Purpose was created from that realization.

TodayMany hands, one little garden.
Many hands, one little garden.
Today, volunteers connected to the Translational Health Science program and the broader community come together to create handmade flowers that are shared with patients, healthcare workers, caregivers, and community members.
Unlike fresh flowers, these flowers are designed to last and serve as small reminders that someone took the time to create something just for them.
For us, this initiative has never been only about flowers. It is about creating moments that help people feel seen and remembered.

More than a flower
We chose pipe cleaner flowers because they become a lasting little keepsake. They do not need water, care, or a perfect place to sit. They can stay on a bedside table, desk, windowsill, or shared space as a quiet reminder that someone took the time to make something by hand, just for them.
“Some things are made to fade. Others are made to stay.
